Fuad Salim Farah, MD

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fuad Salim Farah, MD on November 11, 2024 at the age of 95. Fuad was born on April 5, 1929 in Haifa, Palestine. After graduating from Bishop Gobat High School in Jerusalem, Palestine, Fuad went to the American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon, graduating with an MD degree. He completed training in Internal Medicine and Dermatology at the AUB. He received a Rockefeller Foundation scholarship and learned state-of-the-art research techniques in immunology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Upon returning to Lebanon, he quickly rose to national and international prominence both for his scientific research and clinical skills. He met the love of his life, Mona Haddad, and thus was born a marriage made in heaven that lasted for 71 years. His children Richard, Ronald, Joyce and Ramsay brought him great joy and pride. All four children were so inspired by their father’s professional life that they, too, became physicians. The civil war in Lebanon would bring Fuad and his family to America. The loss of their country and extended family was tempered by their immigration to Syracuse, N.Y. in 1976. The Central New York community adopted the Farahs wholeheartedly and without reservation. Fuad remained eternally grateful for this. Fuad became Division Chief of Dermatology at the Upstate Medical University for several decades and continued to teach and serve the community for many decades. He has trained, inspired, and mentored many generations of physicians and medical students who trained under him, and he has touched many thousands of individuals as his patients. He was honored with the Distinguished Service Award by the Onondaga County Medical Society. Fuad is survived by his wife Mona, children, Richard (Krisann), Ronald, Joyce (Christopher), Ramsay (Michelle) and grandchildren, Yasmina, Sullivan, Maya, Mona, Yara and Fouad. Calling hours will be Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road, (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. This will be followed by a private family funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to one of three charities that reflect the different phases and communities of Fuad’s life.
