January 1, 1923 - December 22, 2020
Alice E. (Domres) Rinefierd, 97, of Liverpool, passed away at Crouse Hospital on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from COVID-19. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband of 69 ½ years, Robert (“Bert”) Rinefierd, Sr., parents, Paul Domres, Sr., and Elizabeth (Sullivan) Domres and siblings, Estelle Gary, Paul Domres, Jr., and Margaret Cunningham. Alice is survived by her five sons: Thomas (Mary Beckelhimer) of Central Square; Robert, Jr. (Barbara) of Irwin, PA; Mark (Bettyan) of Liverpool; James (Dan Anderson) of Washington, DC; and David (Stephanie) of Hauppauge; daughter-in-law, Karen Rinefierd of Penfield; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Herman Rinefierd, Jr. of Liverpool along with many nieces and nephews. Alice was born in Syracuse on January 1, 1923 and graduated from Eastwood High School and Powelson Business Institute. She was employed as a secretary at Lamson Corporation in Syracuse until she married the love of her life, Bert, a U.S. Navy fighter pilot, on August 4, 1945. They moved to Galeville in January 1947, to the home in which Alice resided for nearly 74 years. Alice and Bert were founding members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Salt City Little League, served as an elementary school room mother for each of her sons and in the PTA, and volunteered for many other activities. Alice was an avid bowler, bowling well into her eighties. She enjoyed watching sports with Bert, especially SU football and basketball. She loved word games, crossword puzzles, Jumble, Scrabble, and most recently Words with Friends. Above all else, Alice loved people and she touched many lives. She had the gift of gab and could easily strike up conversations with anyone. Alice always had an accepting and non-judgmental approach to everyone she encountered. She opened her heart, her home, and her table to her family, extended family, and countless others. She looked forward to holidays and the marvelous bedlam that ensued when her family came “home”. She was an avid baker and trays of her homemade cookies were the cornerstone of family gatherings. Rain or shine, she enjoyed being present for her sons’ and grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts, dance recitals, graduations, and weddings. She took particular delight in cards, letters, phone calls, and spontaneous visits from family and old friends. Her ready smile, sassy wit, infectious laughter, and heartfelt “Hi Honey!” will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank her home health aides Lauryn, Tammy, Lydia, and Beth for their care and compassion during the challenging final 5 months of Alice's life at home and most recently the staff at St. Camillus and Crouse Hospital during her stays there. Funeral services will be held at 9 AM on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Liverpool. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alice's memory to The Food Bank of Central NY or to a charity of your choice.
