Ashley N. (Vaeth) Whaley, 30, of Liverpool, passed away September 22, 2021. Ashley was a loving wife, daughter, sister, and friend to so many. All who knew Ashley would undoubtedly say that she lit up every room she walked into. Her smile was contagious, and her laughter was infectious. She truly had a heart of gold. She was a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 10 years after receiving a BSN at Lemoyne College and her RN from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She was also certified as an Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Certified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse. Ashley also received many recognitions from St. Joseph’s Hospital including a STAR award, Spirit of St. Joseph’s Award, and the National “Good Catch” Award. During Ashley’s career as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, without fear or restraint, she cared for many Covid patients, one in particular, whose family made a large donation to the hospital in her name in appreciation for her compassion and dedicated nursing. Ashley was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Robert and Patricia Means; paternal grandfather, Frederick F. Vaeth; step-grandfather, Joseph T. Pirro III; step-grandmother, Mary George; marital grandparents, Howard and Mavis Whaley, Aurelio and Rosalia Giardina, and her beloved aunt, Libby Costanzo. Ashley is survived by her loving husband, David A. Whaley; her mother, Susan (Daniel) George; her father, Frederick (Katherine) Vaeth; her brother, Christopher (Colleen) Vaeth; a sister, Amber Farino (Corey Schmidt); in-laws, John (Rosalia) Whaley; brothers-in-law, John M. Whaley, Jr., and Joseph H. Whaley (Katherine E. Monashefsky); stepbrother, Michael (Kate) Flynn and stepsister, Laura (Christopher) Fox; grandparents, Theresa (Charles) Hoalcraft, Robert and Joyce George, Karen Pirro and Richard Johnson, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, (Vivian, Nicolas, Patrick, Jillian, Molly, Abigail), and friends; and her loving dog, “Baby Squirtle” Jade. Ashley cared for hundreds of patients in life and will continue to provide life through her selfless act of being a universal organ donor. The family would like to give a special thanks to Ashley’s caretakers at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (MICU), with special acknowledgement of Erika, Brianna, and Madeline. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Ashley’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Sacred Heart Church of Cicero. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.
