Carmella J. Maurillo, 85, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born in Syracuse to Rosaria (Clavelli) and Antonio Maurillo, Carmella spent her teen years in Los Angeles, CA graduating from John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in 1954. She worked in the Theatre District, which afforded her the opportunity to attend Hollywood premieres. Carmella was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation for almost 40 years. She was an avid supporter in creating The Maurillo Family Garden at The Saint Marianne Cope Shrine and Museum. She enjoyed bowling, participating in several bowling leagues and tournaments. She loved bus trips with her sisters, frequenting several casinos. Carmella was generous to everyone and selfless. She was instrumental in organizing family reunions, rolling out the red carpet to all who attended; above all, “Nana Carmie” enjoyed every waking moment spent with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, Carmella was predeceased by five siblings: Pearl Toteda, Susan Ceretto, Antoinette Jacob, Constance Aversa, and her only brother John and sister-in-law, Mary Maurillo. Carmella is survived by her daughter, Rosmarie (John) Pajack; granddaughters, Sydney and Britney (Lawrence Graser) Pajack; 2 great-granddaughters, Natalia, and Giuliana; a great-granddaughter on the way; 2 step-great grandchildren, Preston and Harleigh; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St. Syracuse, NY 13208. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Thursday, November 11, 2021, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd) N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
