July 15, 1950 - February 26, 2022
Diane T. Gardner “DeDe” passed away peacefully at Upstate Hospital on the evening of Feb. 26, 2022. She was surrounded by her husband of 48 years (John Gardner), along with her daughter. Heaven has certainly gained an angel. Diane was born in Syracuse and was the only daughter of Earl and Claire Gillette (Robbins). She spent most of her childhood years residing in the DeWitt area, where she attended The Convent School, graduated from Nottingham High in 1968, and continued her studies at Le Moyne College. At the age of 15, she met her beloved husband, saw him through the Vietnam war, and they were later married on December 28, 1974. In 1982, they were blessed with their only child, Colleen (Lorenzo). In her adult years, Diane resided in the Westvale area, and more recently relocated to Baldwinsville to be closer to her family. Diane spent most of her career working in the medical billing field, most recently for MedBest, prior to her retirement in 2016. A witty and humorous woman, Diane always loved shopping and most importantly, a good bargain. She was saddened when her favorite store, Pier One imports closed, as she was undoubtedly their top customer. Diane always had a love of decorating for the various holidays, Christmas being her favorite. She grew to be a fantastic baker, best known for her infamous almond paste cookies. The holidays would never be complete without a tray of Diane’s Italian cookies! She also had a tremendous love of animals and was a longtime supporter of the SPCA and the Humane Society. Diane was lucky enough to be blessed with many lifelong friends, of whom became her family. She thoroughly enjoyed the endless memories they shared. Her greatest joy, however, was undoubtedly being a mother and subsequently a grandmother, to her three beautiful grandchildren Julian, Oliver, and Brooklyn. She loved to offer advice, whether solicited or not, especially to her favorite son in law, Joel. The endless debates, conversations, laughs, and jokes shared will be forever remembered. Diane was a very kind, thoughtful, generous, and selfless person who approached each day with a smile. She was a wonderful wife, friend, Nonna, and above all else the most fantastic mother. She truly was a gift sent from God and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, from 4:00 - 6:30 pm, immediately followed by a Funeral Service in celebration of Diane’s life at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. To view the service remotely, please visit Diane’s tribute page at tjpfuneralhome.com on Tuesday at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Diane’s name to the CNY SPCA, 5878 E. Molloy Rd., Syracuse, NY 13211.
