October 27, 1950 - January 19, 2022

Edward A. Tarsel, 71, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2022, with his loving wife by his side. Ed was born and raised in Syracuse to the late Edmund and Jean (Krol) Tarsel and loved cheering on SU’s basketball team. He was a dedicated bartender at his family’s business, Smokey’s Bar and Grill and was especially proud of his work in the S.H.A.P.E. program. Ed dedicated over 35 years to help write tickets to people parked illegally in handicap spaces. Throughout his many years of service, he received an honorable award for helping the sheriff’s department. He also enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles. Besides his parents, Ed is predeceased by his sister, Barbara Jean (Tarsel) Fuller. Edward is survived by his wife, Mary (Kavney) Tarsel; his brother, Michael J. Tarsel, as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart Basilica.
