Emily (Nesci) Maggio

August 30, 1925 - February 27, 2021

Emily (Nesci) Maggio, 95, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 27, 2021. She was born on August 30, 1925 to the late Joseph and Marianna (Carni) Nesci and grew up on North McBride Street surrounded by loving parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Despite the Depression, wars, and other hardships, if asked Emily would always tell you she had the best childhood anyone could ever have. In May of 1950, she married the late Joseph J. Maggio. Emily and Joseph resided together in Liverpool and raised four children. Emily retired after many years as a receptionist at Thomas Hair Stylist and as a hostess at Aunt Josie’s Restaurant. She was known for her selflessness and devotion to her family. They always came first. She was a best friend and confidant to her grandchildren. Her home was the gathering place for every holiday or special occasion and her door was always open to family and friends too numerous to count. In addition to her parents and husband, Emily is predeceased by her son-in-law, Patrick M. Tucci, her sister, Theresa Ludovico, and brothers, James and Raymond Nesci. Emily is survived by her children, Denise Tucci, with whom she resided; Joni (Thomas) Sprague, John Maggio (Mary Kelly), and Joseph (Cindy) Maggio; grandchildren, Courtney (David) Ashbrook, Joseph Maggio, Michael (Sara) Maggio, Remi (John) Dillon, Alexi (Todd) Gregory; seven great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, John F. Maggio; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mary Daye for her wonderful care of Emily over the years. Calling hours will be held from 3 – 5 pm on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 immediately followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Emily’s life at 5 pm at Pope John Paul XXIII Church, 8290 Soule Rd. Liverpool, NY 13090. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to In My Father’s Kitchen, P.O. Box 11328 Syracuse, NY 13218 or www.inmyfatherskitchen.org
