Howard R. Phipps

Howard R. Phipps, 80, of Manlius, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 13, 2022. Howard was born June 04, 1941, in Norfolk Virginia to William and Clarabelle Phipps. He was the youngest of 4 children. Howard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and was an active member of Air Force Intelligence. Howard met his wife, Dianne, of 58 years, in 1960 and they wed in 1964. Howard graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in accounting. He worked as a CPA for Lybrand, and eventually became the controller for Black Clawson. Later in his career, Howard was the CFO for Empire Airlines in Westmoreland NY and Transonic Systems in Ithaca NY. Howard was a loving husband and father known for his stabilizing presence in the family. He was a man of few words who always showed his love through dedication and support. Howard is survived by his wife, Dianne (Lapenta); his daughters, Kristen, Lauren, and Karen and his five grandchildren. Family and friends are welcome to celebrate a Funeral Mass for Howard at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave., Syracuse, NY. Private entombment with Military Honors will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Shriners Hospital for Children or HumaneCNY.
