James J. "Jim" Carr
March 5, 1940 - March 27, 2022
James J. “Jim” Carr, 82, of Syracuse, passed away March 27, 2022, at Francis House surrounded by family. Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late James J. and Margaret (Scanlon) Carr. In his early years, Jim worked at several local dealerships as a master mechanic until he established Carr’s Automotive, a full-service gas station in 1984. For 34 years, Jim worked as owner/operator alongside his wife, Arlie, who handled the accounting for the business. Jim was loved by members of the community for his dedication and willingness to give to others, as his business remained as one of the only full-service gas stations in the area. Jim was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching horse racing at his leisure. Jim introduced and shared this passion with his granddaughter, who made it her goal to grant him the wish of seeing her own horse for the very last time upon his stay at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Jim had an unspeakable bond with Cisco and loved to visit the stable where he would treat the horse with carrots and apples. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, David Carr in 2018 and his sister, Mary Carr. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Arlie (Young) Carr; his son, James Carr; his daughter, Sandra Carr; grandchildren: Tara, Jenna, Meghan and Mary; his fur babies, Cisco the horse and Oliver the cat, and his close friend, Mark Werfelmann. Special thanks to the entire staff at Francis House and Hospice of CNY. Private funeral services entrusted to THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. Donations may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
