September 10, 1956 - May 8, 2021
James R. Zimmerman, 64, of Syracuse passed away on May 8, 2021. Jim was born on September 10, 1956 to James H. and Catherine S. Zimmerman in Syracuse, where he lived his whole life. Jim graduated from Assumption Academy in 1974. After high school, he followed in his father’s footsteps beginning his career as a machinist at O.M. Edwards. He then went on to work for Carrier UTC for 15 years, before retiring from Specialty Welding & Fabrication. He loved his job as a machinist and was extremely proud of all the products that he fabricated. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing, hunting and camping, as well as cooking the fish he caught. In addition, he was an excellent pool and foosball player. Other interests were sports cars, NASCAR racing, and bird & deer watching. Jim was well loved by so many, whether you called him Jim, Jimmy, Uncle Jimmy, Jim Zim, Slim, or Cousin Jimmy. Jim is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Joanne Zimmerman and brother-in-law, F. Lockwood Morris. He leaves behind his two sisters, Diane Morris and Maryann (Alan) Smithling; his niece, Catie Brigandi and his aunt & godmother, Mary Jane Pizzuto, plus several special cousins and close friends. There will be no services; a Celebration of Life will be planned for the Fall.
