John M. Crumb

August 21, 1946 - March 18, 2022

John M. Crumb is a man who has fought many battles. On Friday, March 18, 2022, his fight has ended. He has been asked home to the Lord. John was born in Syracuse, son of the late John and Eileen (Boyle) Crumb. He retired from Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #267 in Onondaga County where he worked for 20 years. Throughout his life, John enjoyed many things, including NASCAR, working on cars in his garage, and wearing Hawaiian shirts. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and wondering which family member he could mess with that day. John was a man of many words and he made sure you knew what they were. 38 years ago, John was blessed to be given a second chance at life and he owes a great deal of that to a very close friend and sponsor, Jimmy Hartnett. John is very proud of his sobriety and made it his mission to help anyone that was willing to help themselves. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his great-grandmother, Ida Jane Law. John is blessed to have left behind his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 54 years, Phyllis (Mignacca) Crumb; two sons: Anthony (Amanda) Crumb, Sr. and Michael P. (Erica) Crumb; his daughter, Maria (Vincenzo) Valentino; his cherished grandchildren: Emerson, Anthony, Darren, Angela, Alyssa, Vincenza, Dante, Payton, Amelia and Dominic; a sister, Denise Yakawiak; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his fur baby, Lucy Lue. Special thanks to Stephanie, and the nurses from Liverpool Dialysis Center, Dr. Salil Gupta, and the nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life at 10:00 am in Holy Cross Church, DeWitt, NY. He will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Monday, March 21, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
