Joseph C. Gerthoffer

Joseph C. Gerthoffer, 90, of Liverpool, passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Crouse Hospital due to complications from COVID, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Helen (Hickey) and John Gerthoffer. Joe was a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he was in charge of the Purchasing Department at Crucible Steel for 36 dedicated years before retiring in 1991. Joe was a member of the Four (F) Fishing Club, Pastime Athletic Club, a past president of the Knights of Columbus Council, and a member of the Crucible Management Club. Joe was an avid Syracuse sports fan and in his spare time he enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing, but most of all, loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Therese Sutter of Pittsburgh, PA. Joe is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 52 years, Carol J. (Eckert) Gerthoffer, of Liverpool; 3 daughters, Melody Speier, of Liverpool, Pamela (Jorge) Orozco, of FL, and Melissa (Roderick) Tucker, of FL; 3 grandchildren, Brittany Waskiewicz (Nick Capparelli), Brandon Waszkiewicz, and Alanna Tucker; his sister, Ellen Klepo, of Ohio; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
