Louis “Lou” Grillo passed away peacefully at the Syracuse VA Medical Center on Friday, July 16, 2021. Louis was born in Syracuse, to the late Santo and Lillian (Ferrante) Grillo on February 21, 1928. Lou, being the proud American he was, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II, where he proudly served his country while being stationed in China, Guam and Manila. Growing up, Louis attended North High School where he played football and baseball, playing under Orlo Bush. Besides sports, he was active in the chorus and drama club during his school years. Following his high school years, he attended Syracuse University before graduating from the U.S. Marine Corp school of finance and administration. During this time, he was president of the National Association of Accountants for the Syracuse Chapters. After college, he went on to proudly own and operate Lou Grillo accounting and tax service for 47 years, as well as working for several local businesses. As a lifelong parishioner at Our Lady of Pompei Church, Lou loved singing in the church choir and did so for 82 years. Lou was a long-time member of the Eastwood American Legion Post #1276. He also took pleasure caring for his lawn and rose bushes. Along with his parents, Louis was predeceased by his first wife, Maryanne Bonacci in 1977; Second wife, Loretta (Dolly) Salamino in 2017; son, Santo L. Grillo; sisters, Nancy Paparo and Emily St. Angelo; brothers, Joe, Mike, and Sam Grillo. He is survived by his son, David (Sandra) Grillo; daughter, Jeanine (Jefferson) Scott of Bridgeville, Delaware; stepdaughter, Annette (Mike) Ferrante; grandchildren, Kendall and Nick Ferrante; Maria and Emma (Jonathan) Garnett, and Gray (Anna) Scott; brother, Nicola Grillo, as well as many nieces and nephews. Family and Friends may call on Wednesday, July 21st, from 10:00 – 11:45 A.M. at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter’s Church located on 301 Ash St, Syracuse, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 P.M. in the church. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter’s Church, 301 Ash St, Syracuse, NY, 13208.
