Maria (DiGiorgio) Ascenzo

May 29, 1930 - May 3, 2022

Maria (DiGiorgio) Ascenzo, 91, passed away May 3, 2022 at Menorah Park of CNY. She was born in Roccamorice, Italy, and was the daughter of the late Augustino and Graziella (D’Angelo) DiGiorgio. In 1962, she immigrated to the United States with her husband Donato and their children. Her husband and she worked tirelessly to build a new life here for their family. She retired from Julius Resnick Pocketbook Factory and worked at MONY. Maria loved to spend time with her family, cook, bake, garden, sew, decorate, host family dinners, and be with her friends. Her generosity, determination, hard work, perseverance, and love of family and friends will always be remembered and cherished. Maria’s legacy and traditions will live on with her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Donato Ascenzo in 1984; her grandson, Brian Barbuto in 2020; siblings: Franco, Antonio, and Luciano DiGiorgio and Elia Mastrodicasa. Maria is survived by her children: John Frank (Nancy) Ascenzo, Silvio (Laurie) Ascenzo, Loredana (Jim) Stone, Maurizio Ascenzo and Denise (Anthony) Falso; grandchildren: John (Marta) and Ross (Alyssa) Ascenzo; Jeffrey (Maria) Ascenzo and Kerry (Brian) Gehm; Claudia (Robert) Macko and John Barbuto; Alyssa (Dustin) DeCarr, Christian Ascenzo, and Selena Ascenzo; Enzo, Sergio, and Giuliana Falso; 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Angela Cirillo, along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Friday, May 6, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Maria’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, NY, with entombment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
