Mary Lou Farchione
August 17, 1933 - January 10, 2021
Mary Louise (Piedmonte) Farchione, 87, died peacefully Sunday of natural causes, and her daughters were blessed to spend time with her before her passing. After graduating from Solvay High School, she became an executive secretary at Carrier Corporation, where she organized many events and fundraisers. She often talked about skating on the ice of the War Memorial as a snowman during Toys for Tots or convincing her colleagues to participate in a skit she coordinated. She was an active bowler and a fierce competitor. She met the love of her life, Fred, after a setup at the Farchione cottage on Skaneateles Lake. Mary Lou loved to sing and was a proud member of the Bernie Schmidt Singers. She also loved to travel with her close friends and family, especially for dental meetings or annual summer vacations. This included many trips to visit her brother and family in Tennessee. She also loved to throw a great party and entertain, including the times she hosted with her bridge group. They would often talk more than play bridge. As a devout catholic, Mary Lou attended mass daily and was a member of the neighborhood rosary group. Her prayer list was long, but no one was ever forgotten. Her four daughters were extremely important to her, and she often referred to them as “The Girls” on the annual Christmas cards she never missed for 40 years. When you think of an amazing mother, she was all of those things; kind, caring, and loving. She loved to laugh and found humor all around her. She was generous with her time as a volunteer and always willing to do anything for others. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred, her parents, and her brothers, Leonard, and Robert. She is survived by her daughters, Amy Sgromo, Mary Beth Sizing (Bryan), Carolyn Duca (John), and Laurie Holtsbery (Chuck); 11 grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Patricia; cousins, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Francis House 108 Michaels Ave. Syracuse, NY 13208 or St. Jude’s Children Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, which were very important to Mary Lou.
