It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Mary Ann (Stagnitta) Morina, 94. Mary was a lifelong resident of Syracuse, NY and a 1945 graduate of North High School. She was a loving homemaker who raised 8 children and 1 niece. Mary worked at Easy Washer before marrying Nick “The Barber” Morina and later, after raising her children to young adulthood, worked at the Onondaga County HEAP Department. Mary enjoyed playing golf and was one of the ‘First Members of Pompey Hills Country Club’. Mary’s life passion and greatest enjoyment was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who she loved relentlessly, with a calm lighthearted spirit and soft encouragement. Mary would travel all over the country to share any special event that her children and grandchildren were involved in and spent many beach vacations with her large family ‘holding up the fort’ in the beach house. Love of her family extended to sewing, cooking, and baking for her large crew. She was a parishioner and member of the early Bowling League and the Altar and Rosary Society of Blessed Sacrament Church for many years, and together with her loving husband Nick sent their 8 children to Blessed Sacrament School. In her later years Mary enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Magnerilli Community Center of McChesney Park. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Nicholas Morina in 2015; an infant daughter Mary; her parents, Egidia (Vecchio) and Francesco Stagnitta; mother and father-in-law, Nicolina and Antonio Morina; brother, Joseph Stagnitta; sister, Josephine Filipkowski; brother and sister-in-law, Alexander and Barbara Stagnitta; son-in-law, Edward Richards; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Peter Colosi; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sarah and Victor Villani and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mary is survived by her children, Nicolina (Nicki) Richards of Concord, MA, Gilda and Stuart Syverson of Charlotte, NC, Anthony and Sally Morina of Santa Monica, CA, Francine and Jim Levato of Stamford, CT, Teresa and James DeWitt of Syracuse, Gerard and Lisa Morina of Perkasie, PA, Jo Anne and Tim Doran of Camden, ME, Bridget and Mike Meyer of Doylestown, PA and niece, Ann Marie (Filipkowski) Trinca of Syracuse; grandchildren, Andrea (Dan) Smith, Nicholas DeWitt, Melissa (Jeremy) McNeill-Philips, Joseph (Courtney) DiGioia, Monica (Michael) Sirianni, Thomas (Aryn) Richards, Alexandra (Dan Corsello) DiGioia, Luke DeWitt, Kara DeWitt, Adam Morina, Ian Doran, Benjamin Morina, Erin Doran, Olivia Meyer, August Meyer, Nicholas Doran, Emily Morina and Jacob Levato; great grandchildren, Gianna DeWitt, Noemi Smith, Ty Smith, Phonte McNeill-Phillips, and River James Sirianni; nephews and niece, Anthony Trinca, Danielle (Jeff Miller) Trinca, and Michael Trinca; Great-Niece, Lauren Trinca and Great-Nephew, Aidan Trinca; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mom’s dear friend, helper, and confidant, Cindy Whitcomb and to Maria Clemente, Mom’s hairdresser, for her loving touch in styling Mom’s hair for our regular Friday night Zoom calls. A funeral mass in celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3129 James St., Syracuse, NY.
