November 14, 1936 - November 21, 2021
Samira Q. Sousou, born on November 14, 1936, in Ramla, Palestine, to Qustandi and Jaleeleh Sousou, fell asleep in the Lord at home, surrounded by family on November 21, 2021. Samira was a mother figure, sister, godmother, aunt, great aunt, friend, and beloved member of Saint Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church. Samira is survived by her siblings, Elia Sousou, Suad Sousou, Siham Ayoub, Bishara Sousou, Nuha Zraik, Vicky Shehadeh, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Samira was predeceased by her dear siblings Fawzi Sousou, Almaza Louh, and Hannah Sousou. In 1966 Samira and her family immigrated by boat to Syracuse, NY. Samira became a talented seamstress at Joseph Pietrafesa. She enjoyed her time working alongside her sister Nuha and the many friends. She was known by all for her hard work, punctuality, smile, and kindness. Samira spent her Sundays attending St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church, followed by a coffee hour with her church family and friends. If Samira happened not to attend church, people noticed. “Where is Auntie?” they would ask. The church was synonymous with Auntie Samira, and she was a pillar of the community. Samira, along with her sister Siham became a family, where together they raised Sally Aitchison (Ayoub). Samira was a mother and grandmother figure to Sally, Andrew, and their children Christian and Cameron. Samira chose to be a mother to Sally with love and dedication as if she were her own. Above all else, Samira loved spending time with her family. She had innate goodness and a pure heart. She lived her life in the eyes of The Lord. Samira was the matriarch of her family, always bringing joy and love to every birthday, baptism, holiday, and family celebration. Samira will be greatly missed, and her memory will forever be cherished. Services for Samira Sousou will be held on Saturday, the 27th of November. Calling hours and wake are 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church. Funeral Services to follow at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Elias Orthodox Church and the Alzheimer’s Association of CNY.
