Shirley A. Griffith
November 28, 1932 - May 7, 2022
Shirley A. Griffith, 89, passed away unexpectedly on May 7, 2022. She was born and raised in Syracuse and lived the past 25 years in Merritt Island, Fl. Her unexpected passing happened on the day she moved back to New York where she was going to reside in Baldwinsville; Shirley was so happy to be moving home with her family. She had a long career with the American Dairy Association as the Promotional Director for NYS. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, being an active member in her church, which included being in the bell choir and leading women’s Bible studies. Shirley had many wonderful friends and neighbors in Florida and enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a gifted painter, enjoyed cooking, writing poetry, and was a very talented card maker, but above all, she loved her family. It was said by one of her Florida friends, “Shirley’s loss is immeasurable, but so is the love that she left behind”. She was predeceased by her son, William Metzler; her mother, Anna Smith and sister, Janet Burke. Shirley is survived by her husband of 47 years, Daniel W. Griffith; sons, Robert (John) Metzler and John (Jayne Middleton) Metzler; daughters, Valerie Metzler and Susan (Jerry) Hole; step-daughter, Kate Griffith and step-son, David (Ann) Griffith; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022 from 10 am – 12 pm, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Shirley’s life at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. She will be laid to rest at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt, NY.
