Thomas J. Kaufman

Thomas J. Kaufman, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, January 23, 2022. He was a life-long resident of Syracuse, born to the late Joseph and Grace (Danquer) Kaufman. Thomas began his working life as a tool and die maker for Smith Corona. He went on to have a successful career in insurance sales. He started his own business, Kaufman Snack Foods, from which he retired. He was a member of Council 191 of the Knights of Columbus where he was a Grand Knight and served a term as State Advocate for that organization. Thomas worked on obtaining the Christmas Creche that was then donated by the Knights to the city of Syracuse. Thomas was also an avid golfer and fisherman; he volunteered for the Special Olympics and participated in the Senior Games. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife, Edith. In addition to his parents, Thomas is predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Galloway and his granddaughter, Kathleen Scott. Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Edith (Tangredi) Kaufman; his daughters, Roseann Schoonmaker of Auburn, Joanne Scott of Syracuse, and Theresa (Jeff) Biasuzzi of Walingord, Vermont; his sons, Joseph (Debra) Kaufman of Brewerton, Thomas (Anne) Kaufman and Steven Kaufman of Syracuse; his grandchildren, Timothy Scott, Christine Hamilton, Daniel Kaufman, Thomas Kaufman, Jenifer Kaufman, Nicole Cumming, Michael Biasuzzi, William Kaufman, Zachary Kaufman, and Michael Kaufman; his great-grandchildren, Gavin and Rowan Hamilton, Madison Kaufman, Lauren and Alivia Kaufman, Eric and Juliana Fleury, Brantley Cummings and Tyler Kaufman; along with several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held from 2 – 5 pm on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. A funeral mass in celebration of Thomas’ life will take place at 10 am on Thursday, January 27, 2022 in Most Holy Rosary Church, Syracuse. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
