Thomas A. Morgan

Thomas A. Morgan, 71, passed away peacefully at Crouse Hospital on Thursday evening, July 25, 2024. Tom had ESRD (end stage renal disease) and lived with dialysis three times a week for 7 years. He had a difficult and painful life for many years but kept going. He was the Morgan family’s Energizer Bunny. Tom was born in Syracuse, New York and graduated from St. John the Baptist Academy in 1970 and SUNY Buffalo in 1974. Tom was pre-deceased by his father, Thomas J. Morgan, his mother Rosina Russo Morgan, his brother -in-law James J. Szatanek, and his sister-in-law Debbie Morgan, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tom was the most recent patriarch of the Morgan family. Tom’s career spanned working for Cathedral Candle Company and Iroquois Door Company in high school and college, as loan collector for Signal Finance after graduation from college and also as Vice President in charge of Northeast Regional mortgage operations for Citibank. He co-founded and was a senior partner/operations manager for Independent Title Agency LLC (ITA) with offices in Syracuse, Rochester, and Albion, NY. His philosophy centered on operating ITA like a family run business which still continues after more than 20 years. Tom’s focus was always on putting “the entity” (ITA) first and he encouraged everyone who worked with him to let that guide them in their decision making and work efforts. Tom was a generous, kind and witty man with a big heart. He always saw the best in people and believed in doing whatever he could to make their dreams come true. He felt most people just needed a chance and a little help to be successful so he provided emotional support, encouragement and financial assistance when he could. It didn’t matter if they were family, friends or even acquaintances he’d just met. He always felt he was blessed in life and should help those who weren’t as fortunate even if it didn’t always work out. Tom was a scorch and could be counted on for his dry wit and teasing that always added laughter to any occasion. He idolized his generous hard-working father and missed him deeply after he passed away. Tom’s favorite place to be was the Saratoga Race Track in August. It was an annual ritual that he looked forward to all year. In August 2009, he was thrilled to be able to be in the paddock there with other owners and trainers before his horse Picnic Rock raced. Tom’s other favorite place was Las Vegas, where he vacationed annually with his wife and friends. For many years Tom played cards every week with his buddies from Lyncourt and high school at Pastime Athletic Club where he was a life member. Tom was a life-long fan of the San Francisco Giants. He was thrilled that they won the World Series three times in recent years. But loyalty was very important to him and he never quite forgave them for trading away Madison Bumgarner. Tom is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joanne Czebiniak Morgan; his three sons, Eric (Shauntelle) Morgan, Zachary (Sarah) Stolp and Ethan Stolp; his granddaughter, Kiera; his sister, Pat Szatanek; his brothers, Dan (Lisa) Morgan and Jim Morgan; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:30 P.M. immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Tom’s life at 5:30 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at kidney.org/donate
