Edward M. Campagna

Edward M Campagna, 81, of Syracuse, passed away October 22nd, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Edward and Loretta (Leone) Campagna. Ed graduated from Assumption High School, went to a prep school in Canada and attended Erie College. After college, he enlisted in the Marine Reserves and proceeded to work at Carrier Corporation for 20+ years until 1986 when he started his own company, Upstate Parts & Supply as an HVAC distribution house. Along with working, Ed’s faith and devotion to his family was his number one priority. When they moved into Fairmount, they joined Holy Family Church and that started his path of selfless service by becoming a basketball coach for their CYO program. During the early years of his volunteer time, he assisted in developing the Saturday morning basketball program that introduced the game of basketball to younger children of the community. He also took part in the church’s parish council where he was the president and subsequently became the athletic director there for 30+ years. His role in the Holy Family athletic program was known throughout the diocese and was revered as the premier CYO program in the area. Ed & his wife Marilyn always held Holy Family Church as part of who they were and how they could best give back to the community. For many years his children and grandchildren participated in the CYO program, and he would always be there to root them on. He loved getting together with family whether it be a Saturday morning breakfast with his cousins or a family reunion at a park. He always loved seeing them and hearing about their lives. He could always be found following his children and grandchildren to their sporting events, recitals and concerts. He also enjoyed hosting the holidays, planning family reunions and getting together with friends whenever possible. He was the true epitome of what a family man was. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife Marilyn, his daughter, Mary Beth Hurkens, his brother-in-law, Thomas Gleason and sister-in-law, Cathy Gleason. Ed is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Jeff) Bonacci and Anne Marie (Joe) Clabaugh; his son, Ed (Jennifer) Campagna; grandchildren, Caroline Epperson (Peter), Katelyn Clabaugh, Laura Hurkens, Michael Bonacci, Melanie Hurkens, Chris Bonacci, Lindsay Hurkens, Eddie Campagna; great-grandchildren, Dean, Sammy, and Zayden Epperson; sister, Carol (John) Marshall; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Thank you to all the neighbors, friends and family for visits they have made and all that they have done, and special thanks to Hospice and the aides that were there to assist in his time of need. A funeral Mass in celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday, October 28th, 2024, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Church or Hospice of CNY.
