James Joseph "Jim" Papa, Sr.

James Joseph “Jim” Papa, Sr., 83, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Syracuse Home. He was born in Little Falls, NY, son of the late John and Paris (Marocco) Papa and graduated from St. Johnsville High School. Jim proudly served with the U.S. Navy for four years aboard the USS Boston and was a lifetime member of the USS Boston Shipmates. He was a devout catholic and longtime member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Liverpool. Jim worked at Niagara Mohawk/National Grid, retiring after many dedicated years in 1994. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his brother, John “Jack” Papa, and his grandparents, Sam and Madeline Papa, Anthony and Giovanna Marocco. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Kathleen “Kathy” (Young) Papa; two sons, Anthony (Kelley) Papa and James Papa; his daughter, Maria (Jeff) Gill; his grandchildren, Nicole (Aaron) Rajewski, Taylor (Nick) Yanchisin, Gabriel and Paige Papa, Jacob Gill, Briar Rose and Franklin Rajewski, Hunter and McKenna Yanchisin; his brother, Joseph (Gail) Papa, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Our family is deeply grateful to the entire staff at Syracuse Home for their kindness and compassion and special care of Jim over the years. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Epiphany Parish (formerly St. Joseph the Worker Church), 1001 Tulip St., Liverpool, NY. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville, NY. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, August 29, 2025 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR.
