Joanne R. (Tucci) Sabatino

Joanne R. (Tucci) Sabatino, 84, of Camillus, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 15, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Joanne was born in Syracuse to the late Thomas and Nellie (Sgroi) Tucci and graduated from Syracuse University. She went on to teach primary grades at West Genesee and Syracuse City School District for over 30 years and was highly respected for her teaching skills and maintaining a productive learning environment – all while raising three successful sons. Joanne enjoyed spending time at The Villages in Florida, where she made many wonderful friends. She took part in playing golf, bocci, and Mahjong on many occasions. Joanne loved to shop; it didn’t matter if it was for one of her collectable Lladro figurines or for something to spoil her grandchildren (who she adored). Joanne was also quite an extensive traveler, visiting places all over the world with her husband, Dominick, including European and Scandinavian countries, Russia, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Spain. She went on countless cruises and vacations with her family and friends; New York City was a yearly trip, with visits to Broadway shows and delicious restaurants. One of the many highlights of her life was seeing Elvis Presley in Syracuse in 1976 with front row seats. Joanne took great pride in caring for her home and maintaining special Italian family traditions, birthdays, and holidays, all highlighted by her mother-in-law, Leonora’s, famous sponge cake. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the excellent caretakers who supported Joanne through her illness, especially Jeanine Anderson. Joanne is survived by her devoted husband of over 62 years, Dominick Sabatino; her three sons, Dominick (Colleen), Mark (Mary Beth), and David (Jennifer); her grandchildren, Nicholas, Noah, Elizabeth, Thomas, Michael, and Mary; her sister, Camille (John) Francis; her niece, Lynelle Francis; her nephew, Michael Francis; along with several cousins. Visitation will take place from 8:45 – 9:45 A.M. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr. Syracuse, NY, with a funeral mass to follow at 10:00 A.M. in the church, and entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church of the Holy Family Food Pantry, 127 Chapel Dr. Syracuse, NY 13219.
