Margaret "Margo" (Favorito) Cavelos

Margaret “Margo” (Favorito) Cavelos, 94, of N. Syracuse, passed away June 13, 2024 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire. She was born March 11, 1930, in Norwich, the daughter of Onofrio and Margaret (Biviano) Favorito. She studied to be a dental hygienist at the Eastman Dental School in Rochester, and following graduation, she worked for several area dentists as well as the Syracuse School District. Margo was vivacious and loved life. She could make any outing into an adventure, whether it was a trip to Epcot Center or to Wegman’s. She also loved bringing people joy through the gift of a beautiful singing voice that God gave her. Her first performance came at age 9, at her fourth-grade music recital, where she sang “The Woodpecker Song” in English and Italian. As an adult, she was a soloist and songwriter. She was featured in community theater productions of Guys and Dolls, Hello Dolly, Anything Goes, Oklahoma, Carousel, The Pirates of Penzance, The Sound of Music, and many more. She served as chorus director at the Cicero and Clay Senior Centers, the Salvation Army, the Wagon Wheel, and Buckley Landing. Margo loved to travel and would plan trips as “carrots” to look forward to. Her lifelong dream was to go on a cruise ship through the Panama Canal. She did that, as well as traveling to many other locations including Argentina, Europe, and Hawaii. Margo loved spending time with her family and friends and took pride in the many, many friends she had in the area. She held the office of “Birthday Lady” at the Civic Social Club, was County Chairman of the NY State Federation of Women’s Clubs, and was a member of the Corinthian Club, the Canton Woods Senior Center, the Friday Bridge Club, and the Strong Bones Exercise Class. She loved crossword puzzles and card games of all types. She was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero, serving as Eucharistic minister and in the Mercy Ministries, and singing in the regular and resurrection choirs. She was also active at St. Rose of Lima Church in N. Syracuse as a participant in the Bible class, the Spirit of Life Prayer Group, and served as a regional pastoral council representative. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur A. Cavelos, who died in 1980; four sisters, Marion Favalion, Nancy Lawson, Rosemarie Loftus, and Joanna Fowler; and one brother, Thomas Favorito. She is survived by her daughters, Jeanne (Michael Flint) Cavelos of Mont Vernon, NH, and Crystal (Tim Rumbolz) Campisi of San Jose, CA; and two grandchildren, Jerry Campisi and Julie Campisi. A funeral Mass in celebration of Margo’s life will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 8229 Brewerton Road, Cicero, NY. She will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum, 8668 County Rte. 57, Baldwinsville, NY. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road (Corner of Buckley Rd.), N. Syracuse, NY.
