Maria Nieves (Ros) Nicoletti

Maria Nieves (Ros) Nicoletti, 80, of Rochester, passed away with loving care at the Advent House in Fairport, NY on Saturday, January 25, 2025, surrounded by her family. Maria was born in Barcelona, Spain to the late Jorge and Rosa (Bourman) Ros. She obtained her Masters of Education and became a Bilingual Education teacher for the Syracuse School District for many years, working for the Seymour Elementary School and earning NYS Bilingual Teacher of the Year Award in 1994. Maria was a woman of faith with an active prayer life, who loved knowing the Lord Jesus Christ. She attended North Central Church until 2023 when she moved to Rochester and encouraged people to know God personally wherever she lived. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Anthony Joseph “Tony” Nicoletti, and her step-son, Dino Nicoletti. Maria is survived by her children, Dona (Michael) Watkins, Lisa (Charles) Samkoff, and Eric Ianuzi; her step-children, Carmel (Karl) Nicoletti, Tony (Pamela) Nicoletti, MarySusan (Daniel) Nicoletti-Watson; her grandchildren, Ethan, Ashton, and Caitlin; her step-grandchildren, Mario, Antonia, Angelo, Seth, Miranda, Carlee, Victoria, Cirro, and Sloane; her brother, Carlos (Mari Luz) Ros; her many brothers and sisters-in-law; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. Maria was proud of her heritage and homeland of Catalonia. She was a devoted inner-city teacher, and inspired children to do their best. She appreciated the photography and artwork of her son; cherished vacations to Ocean City, NJ; and loved time with her family whether it be trips, celebrations or just visiting. Maria loved her family and friends coming from a diverse circle. She will be missed by the extended family of Nicoletti’s and Ianuzi’s; neighbors of Highland Street; friends from Seymour School and from her community of faith where she and her late husband, Tony served for years; and recently friends at Cranberry Landing Assisted Living in Rochester where she last lived. Maria was a generous giver, always helping and giving to friends, family and others. She made friends wherever she went. The family extends special thanks to UR Hospice, UR Pluta Cancer Center, Dr. J. Kirshner of HOA, and Dr. Justin A. Iorio of SOS, for compassionate care to Maria. Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Maria’s life at 11:00 A.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, please honor Maria with a donation to Advent House, 1010 Moseley Rd, Fairport, NY or North Central Church, North Syracuse, NY.
