Raymond E. Moriarty December 19, 2022 With heartbreaking sorrow, the family of Raymond Edward Moriarty shares his passing after a short, but vicious illness. Raymond (75), of Syracuse, NY, a first class: husband, father, Pop-Pop, brother, uncle, son-in-law, firefighter, veteran, window washer, world traveler, friend and golfer (first class once removed) passed over on December 19, 2022, surrounded by his family. Ray was born to Maurice and Lucille Moriarty on June 7, 1947 in Syracuse, NY. He attended Central Tech High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1967, completing one tour of duty in Vietnam. Ray then had some fun adventures in Florida (in the military) and then in Arizona (as a flower child of the 70's) before resettling in Syracuse. There, he met Denise at a music festival in Watkins Glen and the rest is history. Ray's greatest pride, after his children and grandchildren, was that of being a firefighter for the city of Syracuse for nearly thirty years. Captain Moe, of Station 2, loved serving the community and he loved the people he worked with. From what we hear, he especially loved shoveling hydrants after big snow storms. In Ray's retirement, he wasted no time. If he was not on the golf course, he was working in his gardens or organizing his next vacation. In the past 17 years, Ray traveled to Alaska (many times), China (twice!), Vietnam, Australia, Peru, Ireland, Italy, St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Hawaii and Florida (yearly with his golfing buddies). Ray is survived by his wife, Denise and their two daughters, Amber (Patrick Courtney) and Chelsea, along with grandchildren, Lilly, Quinn and Declan. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Murray (John) and brother, Michael Moriarty (Ruth). Ray was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Corrine Casler, along with his many, many pets that loved him. His passing is devastating and brings us great sadness. We are comforted by the laughter and love-filled memories he created for our family. We imagine Ray has already finished his first 18, and is enjoying a nice glass of cab, sharing his contagious smile and laughter with his family, old friends, and, knowing Ray, some new friends as well. Calling hours for Ray will be January 15th from 2 to 4 pm, at the Timber Banks Clubhouse, Event entrance. A funeral mass will be held at St, Augustine's Church in Baldwinsville, Monday, January 16th at 11 am. A celebration of Ray's life will follow at Timber Banks Clubhouse. We, and Ray, would be honored by your presence. Please join us for lunch and share your favorite remembrances and stories. Ray's favorite charities were the Food Bank of CNY, The Humane Society of CNY and Rotoplast International. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor.
