Rosa (DiMento) Lisa

Rosa (DiMento) Lisa, 90, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Spadafora, Messina, Sicily, to the late Vincent and Giovanna (LoSurdo) DiMento, Rosa and her family came to the United States in 1955. After losing her mother at a young age, as the first born of six children, she instinctively stepped into a role of responsibility and devotion—becoming the heart of her family. That instinct never left her. She was the thread that wove everyone together—the matriarch, the keeper of traditions, the one who made every house feel like home. She didn’t just care for her own; she extended her warmth to everyone. She was “Nonna” to many, and her love streamed generously to all who crossed her path. Rosa was a woman of profound generosity and spirit. Her greatest joys were feeding her family and friends, gathering loved ones around the table for holidays, and exploring her faith through travel. Her home was always open, her kitchen always warm, her arms always embracing. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Pietro, in 2014; her sister, Josephine Paratore; and her brothers-in-law, Nino Magazu, Joseph Paratore, and Tony LaMacchia. Rosa leaves behind a legacy of love through her two daughters, Giovanna (Paul) Welch and Victoria Strauss; her five grandchildren, Rachel and Robin Calarese, Bryanna (Daniel) Cortese, Kaila Strauss, and Michael Welch; her siblings, Grace Magazu, Frank (Maria) DiMento, Rita LaMacchia, and Anthony (Rina) DiMento; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her presence was a blessing, her absence a great loss. She will be missed deeply, remembered always, and loved forever. A funeral Mass in celebration of Rosa’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 10am, in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, followed by entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd., (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
