Alberto "AL" Malara's Obituary
Alberto “Al” Malara, 85, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Monday at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Archbald, PA, and lived in Syracuse most of his life. The son of the late Pasquale and Carmella Malara, Al owned and operated several hair salons and barber shops throughout his life. He served in the National Guard as a Master sergeant between 1947 and 1955 . Al was very active in First Christian Assembly Church, serving on the church board of Elders, as an Usher, member of the choir, along with numerous other positions within the church.
Al was predeceased by 4 brothers Dominic L. Malara, Philip Malara, Rev. Bruno Malara and Joseph Malara. A sister Catherine (Camardella) Fowler.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Yolanda (Ponzio) Malara; 3 children Ann (Robert) Malara-Zaccaria, A. David (Nancy) Malara and Dr. Richard C. (Michelle) Malara; 9 grandchildren Chelsea Castor, Rachel Zaccaria, Rob Zaccaria, Rebecca Zaccaria, Emily Malara, Nathaniel Malara, Lauren Malara-Bowers, Brooke Malara and Jordan Malara; 3 great grandchildren Ethan, Samuel and Adelina “Ella” along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service in celebration of Al’s life will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home. Burial will follow in White Chapel Cemetery, DeWitt. Family and friends may call at the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home 3401 Vickery road (corner of Buckley road) on Thursday from 4-7 P.M.
