Alexander J. Alessi's Obituary
Alexander J. Alessi, 28, passed away at home surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous fight against spinocerebellar ataxia. The youngest in a family of three boys, Alex was lovingly referred to by his mother as her “devil with a halo,” taking after dad in bringing comedic relief to any conversation with a touch of mischief. He graduated from Liverpool High School and played center on the football team, where he developed lifelong, supportive friends. Despite being diagnosed with progressive spinocerebellar ataxia in 2014, he remained a light in any room, facing the disease with unwavering optimism and perseverance. Taken from us too soon, Alex’s legacy will continue in all the lives he touched.
Alex was predeceased by his father, David J. Alessi, who also passed away from spinocerebellar ataxia, an uncle, and all four grandparents: Josephine and Joseph Gravante, and Ann and Rocco Alessi. He is survived by his loving mom, Terri (Gravante) Alessi; brothers and sister-in-law, Marc, Michael and Nabila; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and family friends.
A funeral service in celebration of Alex’s life will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, with burial to follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Road (Corner of Buckley Road) Syracuse, NY 13212.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Alex to the National Ataxia Foundation or Hospice of Central New York.
