Alfonso J. Paparo's Obituary
Alfonso J. Paparo, 96, of Syracuse, passed away at Iroquois Nursing Home on Sunday, December 14, 2014. He was born in Syracuse, the son of Mario and Josephine Paparo. Alfonso worked with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 31 years. He was the beloved radio announcer, Alan Paro, and worked for 17 years locally, including WSYR, WFBL and WSEN. He also announced for the Syracuse Chiefs, professional boxing and wrestling matches. Alfonso was a member of Lake Shore Yacht and County Club for over 35 years and a communicant of Holy Cross Church in DeWitt.
Alfonso was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Wanda A. (Podolak) Paparo; his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Norman (Margaret) Paparo; sisters and brother-in-law, Kathleen Bush and Dorothy (John) Ciotti.
Alfonso is survived by his son, Albert M. (Joann) Paparo of DeWitt; two grandchildren, Michael (Michelle) Paparo of Syracuse and Dr. Stephen Paparo of Amherst, MA; his great-granddaughter, Morgan Paparo; a sister, Leonara Giunta of Stewart, FL, along with many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass in celebration of Alfonso’s life on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 12:00 pm (Noon) at Holy Cross Church, DeWitt. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt.
