Alfred R. Marcy Jr.'s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Alfred Russell Marcy, Jr. on September 22, 2024, at the age of 98. Born on April 12, 1926, in New York City, Alfred grew up and settled in the Syracuse area. The eldest of four sons, he learned early about resilience, helping to support his younger brothers after his parents’ divorce and navigating the hardships of the Great Depression.
Alfred pursued his interests with focus and ambition. A proud Eagle Scout, Alfred received his education at the General Motors Institute (now Kettering University), where he developed a lifelong passion for engineering. He enlisted in the Army to serve his country during WWII. For 44 years, Alfred devoted himself to Fisher Body Division of General Motors, rising to a leadership position in his engineering division—a man known for his inventive mind and his ability to solve problems.
In 1954, Alfred married Catherine Frances Blanding, and they raised nine children: Susan Jannuzzi (Charlie), Thomas Marcy (Suzanne), Margaret Marcy Emerson (Timothy), Barbara Zigarelli (Vinny), Joan Scigliuto, William Marcy (Deanna), Teresa Matias (Victor), Gary Marcy (Debbie), and Stephen Marcy (Jeana). He was a proud grandfather to 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who love him deeply, with the newest member arriving just two days before his passing. Alfred took great joy in his family. He had a love for animals and took special note of all his furry grand-babies and they took the same shine to him.
In his later years, Alfred opened his heart to God and joined the Catholic church, finding deep meaning in his faith. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, FL.
Alfred’s hobbies included model airplanes, ham radio operating, ballroom dancing, sailing, and photography. He created an extensive photo archive of his life and family.
After a brief illness, he left this life surrounded by his loving and devoted children.
