Alfred Frank "Fritzie" Merluzzi's Obituary
Alfred Frank “Fritzie” Merluzzi, 91, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully January 5, 2026, at home. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Paul and Teresa (Bersani) Merluzzi, and was a proud U.S. Army veteran. Fritzie was a butcher for many years for several area grocery stores, including his father’s meat market, A&P, Loblaws, P&C Foods, and Price Chopper. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, and loved music, dancing, and was a sports enthusiast, especially while rooting for the Syracuse University Football Team.
Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Maryann Merluzzi in 2016; his siblings, Susie Merluzzi, Gina Merluzzi, Mary Bombard, Anna Leo, Margaret Massaro, Anthony Merluzzi, Anthony’s twin sister, Rita Merluzzi, Paul, Alexander, and Armond Merluzzi.
Fritzie is survived by his children, David Merluzzi, and Laurie (Joseph) Nicoletti; grandchildren, Dominick, and Amanda Nicoletti; two great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Nicoletti family would like to thank the aides and staff of Brookdale Summerfield Senior Living for their excellent care of Fritzie.
A calling hour will take place on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Fritzie’s life at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY. Fritzie will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fritzie’s memory may be made to Aurora of Central New York, Inc., 1065 James St. Syracuse, NY 13203.
