Alfreda "Freda" (Monforte) Parisi's Obituary
Alfreda “Freda” (Monforte) Parisi, 106, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Syracuse Home Association in Baldwinsville. She was born in Passopisciaro, Sicily, daughter of the late Giuseppe and Serafina (Sorbello) Monforte. She emigrated to America with her family during the great depression in 1930 and found work as a fine seamstress with Learbury Clothing Co. Freda inspired everyone to work hard, help others and make the best of every situation.
Freda was a devoted wife and mother, always making family her priority. She was an outstanding role model for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a great storyteller and highly skilled at knitting, crocheting, and dress making. She was also an avid baker and cook. Freda was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Syracuse for many years.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Joseph Parisi in 1995; her daughter, Sara P. Lane, PhD, and her grandson, Carter J. Buckley.
Freda is survived by her three children, Anthony J. Parisi, PhD (Jeannette); Lucy P. Buckley, MD (Carter) and Joseph E. Parisi, MD (Christine); her nine beloved grandchildren, Joe and Maria Parisi, Vicki Kenny, Helen Buckley, David and Thomas Parisi, Jenny, Frank and Timothy Lane; seventeen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and dedicated friends, Jim, Linda and Ryan Nolan.
Family and friends may call on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 10-11 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 21 Cherry Tree Circle, Liverpool, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Freda’s life at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum. A Celebration of her life is being planned for April 2020.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Freda’s name may be made to CU Kids at Heart, benefiting the C.J. Buckley Pediatric Brain Cancer Research Fund at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, 35 Corporate Drive, Suite 300, Burlington, MA 01903.
