Allen M. Shields' Obituary
Allen M. Shields, 69, of Syracuse, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Crouse Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Allen was born in Syracuse to the late Eugene and Irene (Toomey) Shields and worked for many years as a foreman for the Syracuse DPW; recently retiring in 2012. He was also a volunteer for the Lyncourt Fire Department for over 44 years, serving as former Fire Chief and Fire Commissioner. Allen loved reading, watching Syracuse sports, the NY Yankees, and the Buffalo Bills. Above all, he enjoyed his time spent with family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Irene Moynihan and two brothers, Ray and Michael Shields.
Allen is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Maxine A. (Blazak) Shields; three sons, Chris, Brian (Kassandra), and Kevin Shields; three grandsons, Tyler, Joshua, and Patrick; a brother, Eugene Shields; a brother-in-law, Michael (Gerri) Blazak; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services in celebration of Allen’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 pm, on Monday, July 8, 2019 at the funeral home.
The Shields family would like to express sincere gratitude for the care and compassion given to Allen by the Bishop Health and Rehabilitation, Upstate University Medical Center, and Crouse Hospital.
