Almeda V. "Sandy" (Young) Mercuri's Obituary
Almeda V. “Sandy” (Young) Mercuri, 88, lifetime resident of Syracuse, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Sandy was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Altar Rosary Society, Legion of Mary and Happy Roamers. She volunteered at Northside Ministry and at numerous church functions. Sandy worked as a Secretary for the Department of Defense; she also worked at Bill's Bakery, Darling Ice Cream and for Dr. Howard Wolhandler, retiring after 21 years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sewing and ceramics. Sandy loved traveling, which included trips to Europe twice, a Mediterranean cruise, Alaskan cruise, and a trip to Nova Scotia.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas J. Mercuri; her parents, Madeline and Richard Barger.
Sandy is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Russo, Maryann (Saverio) Scro and Madeline (Raymond) Tafel; grandchildren, Tia (Forrest) Wright, Tony (Angela) Scro, Kate (Joe) Bill, and Jess Tafel; great-grandchildren, Mae, Perrin, Ella, and Nora.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, November 5, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Sandy’s life at 11:00 am in St. Vincent de Paul Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
