Angela M. Attili's Obituary
Angela M. “Angie” Attili, 93, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 26, 2024, accompanied by her best friend and caretaker Annette Cerrone. She was born in Utica to the late Frank and Angelina (Silvestri) Attili and attended Utica Catholic Academy. Angie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from SUNY Geneseo, and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from the College of St. Rose. She was later employed for several dedicated years by the Syracuse City School District as a Special Education teacher, and at St. Daniel’s School where she worked with pre-school children.
Angie was a member of The Order of Sisters of Saint Francis for 35 years where she was a special education teacher with advanced training in Montessori; she taught at several schools throughout Syracuse, Utica, and New Jersey while she was a member of the Franciscan Order. In addition, she worked to open the Marianne Hall School; it was named in honor of St. Marianne Cope and was specifically created for the education of children with Down’s Syndrome.
In her younger years, Angie enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and fellow Sisters of St. Francis, teaching, reading, and attending musical programs. Angie had a passion for children, animals, and music, and was a talented pianist. Over the last 20 years she has enjoyed doing volunteer work at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and spending time with her close friend Annette and her 4 grandchildren, whom she loved as her own. Angie was a kind, caring, and loving woman with a strong faith and commitment to family, friends, and more importantly, God.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Frank (Antoinette) Attili and her beloved cats, Punky and Assisi.
Angie is survived by her nephew, Joseph (Susan) Attili, of San Diego, CA. Joe has been a steadfast provider and loving nephew to Angie. Angie adored him and his wife and treasured them both. In addition, she is survived by her life-long friend, Annette (former Sister Maria Regina) and her husband, Nicholas Cerrone. Angie will be missed by her friends, former students, and many cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and social workers from Hospice of CNY as well as her aides from ElderCare of Auburn.
