Angeline Camardella Banac's Obituary
Angeline Camardella Banac – Returned home Monday, December 21, 2020 after a brief illness. Angie was born September 6, 1933 in Syracuse to the late Giuseppi (GAMBARDELLA) Camardella and Marie Antoinette (GALIMI) Camardella. Angie is predeceased by her parents, brother Andrew Camardella, and beloved niece, Theresa Camardella Neely.
Angie was raised on the Nort’ Side of Syracuse, in a loving and close family, surrounded by her Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. She graduated from Franklin School and Assumption Academy. Angie was formerly employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Bristol Labs and the Jamesville-DeWitt School District, from which she retired.
Angie is survived by her husband of 65 years, Andrew (Ted) Banac; sons, Mark Andrew (Jean) and Joseph (Dianne) and daughter, Mary Margaret; granddaughter, Courtney (Reggie) Banac, and her two great-grandsons, Ace and Kash; and her two nephews, Christopher (Joan) and Joseph (Gina) Camardella. Angie is also survived by her “bonus step” grand and great-grandchildren, in addition to the many Camardella and Galimi cousins throughout the country, and Banac nieces and nephews.
Angie was an avid bell collector having served as President of the York-Penn Chapter of the American Bell Association II. She played the accordion as a child and is pictured with other youth on the wall of Tassone’s Restaurant in Baldwinsville. Angie was active in the Jamesville community having served as a Cub Scout leader for her sons, and an Assistant Girl Scout Leader for Troop 456 for her daughter’s troop. She also helped run the Political Campaign for her son Mark when he was elected to the Town Council of the Town of LaFayette. She was instrumental in establishing a Union for the Secretaries at Jamesville-DeWitt School District. An avid Yankees baseball fan, Angie was able to travel to New York, Cleveland and Toronto on several occasions to see her beloved team play. She could tell you every player, when they played, and who she got to see play when they were farmed to the Syracuse Chiefs when she was a child. She was also fond of knitting, crocheting and painting ceramics. Angie loved to travel. She included in her fond memories a road trip she took with her sister-in-law Helen Reals across country in 1989 to attend the wedding of her niece Theresa Camardella to Matthew Neely.
For the past 59 years Angie made her home with her family in Jamesville, where the original Field Of Dreams can be found. She was known to have continued the talent of making Italian cookies that was passed to her from her Aunt Josie Galimi Lormond. Homemade Ravioli were also on the menu for each Christmas dinner as was tradition in her parent’s home.
A Memorial Service will be performed at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 11 am. Family will receive well-wishers from 10 am to 11 am prior to the service at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Interment will be at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Jamesville immediately following the service.
