Angelo Caruso III

Angelo Caruso III, 52, of Warners, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at home with his family and his lifelong friend at his side following a long, courageous battle with colon cancer. Ang started his law enforcement career at SUNY Cortland’s University Police Department and then went on to work for almost 27 years in the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, retiring as a Captain. He held many positions including Heliport Supervisor, Field Training Program Commander, Amphitheater Commander, and served on the executive board of the Onondaga County Sheriffs Police Association. Ang loved spending time with his family, being the captain of his boat, watching his daughter, Anna, figure skate and his son, Angelo, play hockey. He was an avid golfer, loved going to the movies, was a NY Rangers, NY Yankees, and Chicago Bears fan, and most recently won bragging rights against his own brothers and son in his fantasy football league. Ang is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Jessica; his daughter, Anna; his son, Angelo IV; his parents, Angelo and Mary Caruso; his brothers, Andy and Jason (Lindsay); his brothers-in-law, Marc (Teri) and Seth (Stephanie); his in-laws, Billie Keegan and Michael and Claudia Collins; as well as his nieces, Skylar, Alina, and Sydney and his nephew, Nolan. The family would like to thank Dr. Maini, the St. Joseph’s surgical team, and the nurses and staff on 3-1 for giving Ang a chance to fight his battle for another 18 months. Thank you to Reverend Joe at St. Joseph’s for your powerful words and prayers from the very beginning of his diagnosis to the very day Ang passed away. We would like to thank Dr. Wong, Lauren, Brooke, and Jane at HOA for their compassionate care. Thank you to the entire HOA infusion and lab team for their caring presence during every visit. And to the HOA reception team members for their coordination of so many appointments. A special thank you to Mallory at HOA, whose sincere kindness and bright smiles always made difficult appointments somehow end with Ang smiling. Thank you to the Crouse Radiology Associates team at Brittonfield and the Crouse Same Day Surgery team for their tenderness at each and every visit. Thank you to Dr. Yaeger and the care team at Sloan Kettering Memorial for their care of Ang and to all their amazing research efforts dedicated to finding a cure. We pray for future treatments and cures will be made available. Thank you to Hospice of CNY for their wonderful care of both Ang and our family. To all in the Onondaga County Sheriff Department, your support of Ang and our family will never be forgotten. To all the Law Enforcement Officers and First Responders across CNY, thank you for your service to our community. Thank you to everyone who said prayers, sent texts, cards, meals and visited us. Ang would tell everyone to take time to get their screening colonoscopy. For Ang, please have these important conversations to make sure everyone you love has screened. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Margaret’s Church, 200 Roxboro Rd. Mattydale.
