Ann Arvan's Obituary
Ann Arvan of Syracuse, NY, passed away May 31, 2025. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, she was the daughter of Peter and Fotini Arvanitides. Ann was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses: Joyce (George) Armatas and Dino (Ann) Arvan, and nephews George Armatas, James Armatas and Thomas Arvan.
Ann immigrated from Greece to Watertown, NY where she joined her sister and brother to begin life in America. She graduated Watertown High School, going on to the Nursing Program at Mercy Hospital, and graduating in 1964 as a Register Nurse. Ann loved being a nurse. For over 50 years she proudly cared for patients, while teaching and mentoring others entering the profession in the Syracuse area. Earlier in life Ann enjoyed cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean Islands. She took joy in planning her many trips, making friends in her adventures and creating special memories. Later in life she gave rescue dogs the chance to live their best life, having a special bond with Max, Brandy and Holly, who all brought her so much love and compassion. Most of all, Ann loved her nieces and nephews and appreciated the care and support they provided her. Ann was a member of St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church and St. Sophia’s Ladies Philoptochos Society. Ann’s family extends their appreciation to Fr. David for visiting with Ann regularly when she could no longer attend church services.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Stephanie Armatas, Tina Arvan Northrop, who was also her Goddaughter, Nick Arvan, Pete Arvan and Peter Arvan. Also surviving are several grand nieces and nephews, cousins and her cherished companion, her chihuahua, Holly.
A private service was held at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church with burial at Oakwood Cemetery.
Funeral services were entrusted to THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME.
