Ann Nesci-Murty's Obituary
Ann Nesci-Murty, 84, of Syracuse, our loving, kind, beautiful and generous mother passed away under the loving care of Francis House peacefully on Tuesday with her loving sons by her side. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Ilario and Concetta (Santaro) Nesci. Ann was employed at M.H. Fishman for her first job and once got locked in the store with her friend, Phyllis DelGiorno after the company picnic but before calling for help, she decided they needed to have banana splits. . She loved dancing at the USO with her very close friend Clara Delladera when she was a teenager, who visited her every Sunday at her nursing home and has helped us through this process so very much, and that is her first husband, Tony Clarke. After being the first daughter to graduate high school (North High) she worked in an insurance company. She then met our father in Japan to have both of her sons. While there she bowled and earned bowling trophies and learned how to make Japanese artwork and beautiful Japanese dolls. She was extremely creative and throughout her life used that in beautiful interior decoration in all of her homes. She was an amazingly beautiful woman who put outfits together perfectly and was always the first to something daring with fashion and was the first to have the newest of anything like the Sophia Loren perfume and lipsticks. She was a hostess and server at many local establishments over the years including, Aunt Jemima’s, Northway Inn, and Dutch Pantry where she helped her niece Joanne Childs get a job. She then found her dream job at Niagara Mohawk where she was employed for over 22 years in many departments until she retired. She loved it there with her close friends Georgia Edwards, Carmie Fitzgerald, Maryann Gray, Clara Delledera and Peggy and always found time on her break for exercising in the ladies lounge with everyone by doing the electric slide and the Macarena. She also loved visiting her friends in the different departments like her best friend Carmie Fitzgerald and making everyone laugh before the bosses would come out to tell her to go back to her desk. She was loved by many people there and was always late to work every day no matter what time she woke up in the morning she always rushed in. She met her second husband, Jim Murty there when she worked in the Transportation dept. She used to have to pick people up at the airport when they visited Syracuse. She went to Medjugorje to see the Apparitions of the Blessed Mother with her close cousin Barb Santaro and loving friends to profess her Catholic faith. When she retired, she worked at Bonwit Teller in the Carousel Mall and was the top sales lady of the Liz Claiborne Dept. and always bought more than anyone else who worked or shopped there. Anna loved to travel, especially to Virginia Beach, Venice, FL, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Aruba. She once met Jason Giambi while in Florida, he gave her a kiss and she instantly became a huge NY Yankees fan. She loved dancing, casinos, sweets, food, getting her nails and hair done( She once escaped from the rehab at Community General to get her hair done and not miss the annual Chico’s 50% off sale), shopping for clothes(sales people in all stores called her when anything new came in or when there was a sale), purses, shoes, any accessory and was truly not happy unless she was shopping or buying something at any store as she told us. She kept boxes of presents in the garage for people, so she was never without something for someone in need. She went so many years in the depression without that she always wanted to make sure others had things too. From the first duck she bought for her brother’s Easter basket to all the clothes she donated to homeless people and the food and clothing and necessity drives at Niagara Mohawk throughout the years and the many, many charities she donated to as soon as she had money to. She kept meticulous lists so she would be able to keep giving to different places every year. She and Jim had to make sure they gave to different places each year too as they both gave to so many places. They loved going on trips together and loved going to Florida in Venice together every year for 20 years with all their friends from Syracuse to the same area. They loved the casinos too around here and around Buffalo and had the cards to each and every one of them and loved to be at the slot machines for hours on end and the Keno too. They had a wonderful marriage and so much fun together. They loved restaurants and loved going out to eat together with family and friends and took her sons out to eat for all kinds of occasions too. Jim was the most loving and generous husband my mother could ever have asked for and the greatest stepfather. He was that way with everyone and with his family and our family as well. She was so happy she found such a wonderful, loving and kind person to be with. She never met a cookie, cake, pie, pasticcio, or dessert she didn’t love. Our cousin Bobbie Ricelli remembers a party when a chair started to fall under her, and Anna was holding a plate of desserts in each hand and that chair fell but no dessert she was holding was damaged at all. Anna was a loving and caring woman and was always providing for those in need, including a 6 year old from a Central American country, whom she adopted and supported financially until she was 24 years old, putting her through nursing school. She assisted the Special Olympics, was a Hospital Volunteer, volunteered cooking with her friend Georgia Edwards on several New Year’s Eves at the Lyncourt Fire Department and always assisted her friends and family in need no matter what they required. She made an amazing cheesecake with fruit on it and cut out cookies to die for that she had to keep making more of as her kids and sister Theresa kept eating as they came out of the oven. Anna also loved to play cards, all types and say the Rosary and go to parties and dancing everywhere and every new dance from the jitterbug to the cha cha slide and the bump, and was in the North High School Luncheon Club and Birthday Club and Bunco card group with all her wonderful close girlfriends.
Anna was predeceased by four sisters, Theresa Childs, Carmella Nesci, Eleanor Warner and Lucille Hall; and three brothers, James, Larry and Anthony Nesci.
She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, James A. Murty and his loving family; her beloved sons, John B. Clarke, Jr., and David A. Clarke; brothers, Joseph, Michael and Richard Nesci, Patrick (Carol) Nesci; sisters-in-law, Maryjane, Annette, Karen, Sheryl and Connie Nesci; brother-in-law, Donald Hall, Sr.; nieces, Joanne Childs-Sansone, Linda Ricelli, Catherine Nesci Enright, Kimberly Palmer, Kathy Thurston, Staci Nesci, Krista Pascarella, Richelle Brigulia, Lauren Vassallo, Jennifer Maldonado, Tina Nesci, Stephanie Nesci, Kristen Nesci, Andrea Rapasadi, Alicia Wazen, Lisa Wendler, Nicole Suich, Cassandra Cherebin, Melissa and Olivia Peta, Melanie Som; nephews, Anthony, Jeffrey, Richard, Christopher and Larry Nesci. Donald Hall, Jr., Michael, Patrick and Paul Nesci, Jeffrey Barella, Nick Peta, Robbie (Nora) Sansone , Logan Barella, Nathan and Nicholas Mezatesta ;Close cousins Barbara, Joanne, and Jeanette who were always there for Anna and at the nursing home for her too ;Theresa Summa, like a daughter to her for 48 years, who was with her all the time at the nursing home and cared for her in her home as well; her first husband Tony (Carla) Clarke of Virginia and his family; Anna’s many loving Greco, Ianella, Scali, Loizou, Mirigliano, Nesci family members in Australia and Italy; Anna’s and Jim’s friends of many years Carm and John Fitzgerald who visited them in their respected nursing homes all the time and made sure they were so well taken care of constantly; and Anna’s wonderful and loving many friends like Georgia, Clara, Laura, Merci, Rosalie, MaryLou, Dolly, Josey, Louise, Mary Ann K., Mary Ann S., Marlene, Helen, Cathy S., Mary Ann V., Sandy, Joanne, Sara Jane, VernaMae, and Chris F.; Also Mary Ann Gray, Judy Broome and Dick Taylor who followed Anna so closely for over 50 years in the nursing home and always brought such joy to her and her many other loving Nesci and Santaro cousins who were part of her life that have been so kind and supportive to us and Anna always. Thank you also to Amy Salem, Robbin, Linda ,Lindsey, Colleen, Denise, Shakiaya, Sophia, Heather, Charmaine, Carmen, Cindy, Kelly, Rosealina, Zach, Nisharra, Christina, and Susie who truly loved Anna and helped her in the last few years of her life. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 9:45 – 10:45 AM in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St. Syracuse, NY 13208 immediately followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Ann’s life at 11:00 AM in the church. Per the family’s request, all those attending are asked to wear a facial covering.
