Annie (Benedetto) Phelan's Obituary
Annie (Benedetto) Phelan, 96, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Iroquois Nursing Home. Her determination and will power the past several years battling dementia has been an inspiration to the family.
Born and raised in Syracuse, NY, Annie recently moved back to Syracuse after spending much of her retirement years in Lake Havasu City, Az. She was retired from the former Clark, Clark, Millis & Gilson Architects & Engineers where she served as the office manager for over 30 years. Annie was a member of Tuscarora Golf Club in Camillus for over 15 years and played in the Syracuse Women’s District Golf League.
She is most known for her intense passion for living life to the fullest and her love of people. Annie had many interests and hobbies including golfing and collecting antiques. She was a master bridge player and known for her award-winning quilt making. Her zest for life included making many friends that spanned across the country.
Annie and her late husband Jim (Lefty) of 68 years lived a wonderful life that included travelling, golfing and many hobbies. Their retirement of some 35 years in Lake Havasu City were filled with many friends, peaceful and simple living. It was always a common occurrence that when one speaks of Annie to include Jim, since they were an inseparable couple that did everything as a team.
Annie is survived by two sons, James E. (Linda) Phelan, Jr. of Virginia, Jeffrey (Diane) Phelan of Liverpool; her grandchildren, Christopher (Shelby) Phelan, Holly Rose, Jennifer Phelan (Ryan) Boomer and Paul Phelan; great-grandchildren, Peyton Rose, Connor and Stella Phelan, Grayson and Maddox Boomer.
There will be no calling hours and services will be private.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Iroquois Nursing Home for the care and compassion they provided.
