Anthony F. "Sonny" Asterino's Obituary
Anthony “Sonny” Asterino, of Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away on May 1, 2020 at 88 with his sons at his side after a courageous 13-year battle with cancer. Anthony was formerly from East Syracuse and Cicero, NY. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1950-1954. During the Korean Conflict, he served aboard the Aircraft Carriers USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, USS Coral Sea and The USS Lake Champlain, part of the sixth fleet. He retired from Western Electric in E. Syracuse after 30+ years and relocated to Florida with his wife, Antoinette “Toni” (Maione) Asterino. He loved Florida and his Hobe Sound community of Sugar Sands where he will be remembered for his many hours of service to the HOA board and his willingness to always lend a helping hand.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Antoinette “Toni” who passed away in 2016.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Michael (Renee) of Cicero, NY, Anthony of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Christopher (Michelle), of Scottsdale, AZ; 7 grandchildren: Michael (Kerri) Asterino, Tom (Lynsey) Asterino, Marissa & Gabriella Asterino, and Morgan, McKenzie and Madison Douglas; 2 great-grandchildren, Braxon Asterino and Henry Asterino; brothers, Peter (Dolly) Asterino, Joseph (Chris) Asterino and several nieces and nephews.
A private service was held in Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a donation to Treasure Coast Hospice Foundation, 1201 SE Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997. The family would like to thank Heather Yeckes-Rodin, MD, and the research staff at Hematology Oncology Associates of the Treasure Coast for their excellent care and compassion.
