Anthony J. "Nini" Caruso's Obituary
Anthony J. “Nini” Caruso, 89, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on May 15, 2022. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Angelo and Jennie (Salerno) Caruso. Anthony graduated from North High School in 1951 and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Tony worked at Service Liquor Distributors, retiring after 46 dedicated years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and longtime parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and tending to his fig tree, playing cards, bingo and puzzles. Nini loved spending time with his family, especially Sunday dinners, and watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Most of all, he enjoyed rooting against the NY Yankees.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by several siblings: Grace, Carmella, Mary, Nancy, Rocco and Joseph.
Anthony is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Ann (Leo) Caruso; four daughters: Jennie Sullivan, Mary Ann (Greg) Boltus, Christine (Joe) Vieau and Karen (David) Delaney; three sons: Angelo (Michelle) Caruso, Dominick (Karen) Caruso and Anthony (Amanda) Caruso, Jr., 20 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren (soon to be 10); three brothers: Dominick (Mary Ellen) Caruso, Carmen (Monica) Caruso and Angelo (Mary) Caruso, Jr., along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Anthony’s life at 10:30 am in St. Vincent de Paul Church. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
