Anthony L. Kordziel's Obituary
Anthony L. Kordziel, 88, passed away peacefully at Crouse Hospital on December 28, 2022, with his family by his side.
A longtime resident of North Syracuse, Anthony was born on February 3, 1934, in Witherbee, NY, to the late Peter and Mary Anna Kordziel. After graduating from Mineville High School, Anthony earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Albany and his master’s degree in mathematics from Syracuse University on a National Science Foundation grant. During his undergraduate summers, Anthony worked for the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation, pursuing a passion for the outdoors that he developed growing up in the Adirondacks.
Anthony began his teaching career at the Mineville School District and at Ticonderoga High School. He later moved to North Syracuse and married his wife Mary Lou, whom he first met when they were undergraduates at Albany. Anthony taught mathematics at North Syracuse and Cicero High Schools for thirty years, retiring in 1992.
A devoted communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Liverpool, Anthony served as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the St. Joseph of Arimathea Society. Anthony loved hunting, fishing, hiking, and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren at his camp on Big Moose Lake in the Adirondacks.
Anthony was predeceased by his nine siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Lou (Picciano) Kordziel; sons, Paul (Debbie) Kordziel and Kevin (Linda) Kordziel; daughter, Amy (Mark) Robinson, and grandchildren, Alivia Kordziel, Joseph Kordziel, David Kordziel, Katie Robinson, Natalie Robinson, and Andrew Robinson, along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 9:00 – 10:00 am at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY, followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of Anthony’s life at 11:00 am in Epiphany Parish at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 425 Beechwood Ave., Liverpool NY, with entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
