Anthony V. "Midnight" Silvaggio's Obituary
Anthony V. “Midnight” Silvaggio, 74, of Liverpool, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Syracuse and attended Our Lady of Pompei Grammer School and graduated from North High School. Midnight was a U.S. Army veteran. He grew up and spent most of his life on the North Side of Syracuse. Midnight was employed with New Process Gear for over 30 years, as a devoted union member of the Local 624, he worked as a Production Line Worker before managing the Recognition Program until his retirement in 2000. Midnight has always been involved with sports throughout his life, from playing sports to coaching many CNY teams such as Lemoyne Pop Warner Football, Salem-Hyde Little League, and St. Rose of Lima Girls Basketball. He was a longtime coach for CBA Football and involved with their football program for nearly 40 years to present day. Coach Midnight cared deeply about the CBA family and was beloved by players, alumni, fellow coaches and parents who will dearly miss him. He was also involved with many other activities other than sports. The day he retired, he joined the Corvette Club, was an avid golfer and wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He was a Yankee fan as well as a season ticket holder and big supporter of the Syracuse Chiefs. Midnight also was one of the founding members of the Dunkin Donuts Club on James Street and spent every day with his lifelong friends. Midnight was devoted to his family and his faith and always attended weekly Mass.
He was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Antoinette (Camilli) Silvaggio. Midnight is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sally (Donovan) Silvaggio; his two sons, Anthony V. Silvaggio, Jr. of California and Jeffrey S. Silvaggio of Liverpool; two brothers, Joseph Silvaggio of East Syracuse and Nicholas (Becky) Silvaggio of Clay, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Midnight’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to not only the outstanding nursing staff, but to every Crouse employee, including security, valet and cleaning staff. Their compassion and kindness will never be forgotten.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Anthony’s life will be held at 9:00 am on Thursday at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the THOMAS J, PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
