Apostolos "Paul" Merakis' Obituary
Apostolos “Paul” Merakis, 82, of Liverpool, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. He was born in Florina, Greece and resided in the Syracuse area for many years. Apostolos was a Baker with Millbrook Bakery for several years. He always enjoyed being out of the house and socializing with friends, although he especially loved spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sofia (Pappas) Merakis in 2000.
Apostolos is survived by his son, Chris (Pauline) Merakis of Brewerton; his daughter, Maria Ilios of Syracuse; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Zachary) Papaleoni, Melissa Merakis, and Angeliki Ilios; a brother, and two sisters who reside in Australia, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Apostolos’ life will be held at 12:00 pm Noon on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 8:45 to 10:45 am on Saturday, November 1, 2014 with Trisagion Service at 8:45 am at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Road, Syracuse, NY 13224.
