Barbara C. (Carno) Churchill's Obituary
Barbara C. (Carno) Churchill, 79, of East Syracuse, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Friday, May 8, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Joseph and Carmela (Lotito) Carno. Barbara worked in the ESM School District for over 25 years, first in the Attendance Office at Pine Grove Middle School before moving on to the Guidance Department of the high school. She was a communicant and volunteer of St. Matthew’s Church, including assisting families with the Second Time Around Store and helping with Hope Appeal. Barbara was known for her extreme generosity and words of wisdom.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by four of her siblings.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Bruce S. Churchill; her two sons, Kenneth J. Churchill, Sr. of East Syracuse and Bruce T. (Deborah) Churchill of Montana; her two daughters, Carmalee (Donald) Blok of Fayetteville and Hillary (Jeffrey) Shaw of East Syracuse; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Theresa (Samuel) Cimilluca of East Syracuse; three sisters-in-law, Libera M. Carno, Carol Carno and Virginia Carno, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 am on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Barbara’s life at 9:00 am in St. Matthew’s Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, May 11, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Matthew’s Second Time Around Store, 229 W. Yates St., East Syracuse, NY 13057.
