Barbara Jeannie Magdon

Barbara Jeannie Magdon, 78, of Syracuse, NY died on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Upstate University Hospital after a short illness. Barbara was born in Olyphant, PA and moved to Syracuse as a teenager. She graduated from Onondaga Central High School in 1960 and Central City Business Institute in 1961. Her career spanned 52 years, working as a legal secretary for numerous law firms, with her last position at the Devorsetz, Stinziano, Gilberti, Heintz, and Smith firm. Over the course of her career, she made many lifelong friends who she cherished deeply. Barbara loved to entertain, was a gourmet cook and would often receive accolades for her 'famous' lemon pepper chicken and chicken souvlaki. She could always be counted on to 'bring the rolls' to any family gathering. She enjoyed celebrations of any kind with family and friends. She loved bird watching, was an avid reader and could be found in her chair in her sunroom fanning herself every evening watching David Muir on the CBS Evening news, with a glass of pinot grigio next to her and her beloved cat Willie nearby. She would end each day with a nightcap of Brady's Irish Creme. She remained in close contact with her Buffalo Family, The Quinlan Clan, and would often recount the many happy memories made during her time in Buffalo, NY. She will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her. Barbara was the most loving, generous, considerate, and thoughtful person in the world. She was kind to all, and always put others first. A doting cat mom, loving sister, supportive and generous aunt, and grand aunt, and devoted friend. Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Joseph J., and Marie A. (Lukasik) Magdon, her sister Pearl Mattis and beloved ex-husband Ulises Garcia. She is survived by her brother, John (Linda) Magdon, brother-in-law, Bob Mattis, Jr., niece, Lynn Marie Mingolelli, nephew, David Davis (Carol Roberts), nephew, Kevin (Alana) Magdon, nephew, Casey (Sarah) Magdon, grandnephew, Matthew (Mary) Davis, grandniece, Jacqueline (Vinnie) Contrino, grandnephews, Patrick Magdon and Norman Mingolelli III, great-grandnieces, Amelia Rose Contrino and Maura Pearl Davis, and dear friends, (BFF) Janet Sweeney and (Sweet Baboo) Marcia Zielinski. A calling hour will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY 13212 immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Barbara’s life at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
