Barbara M. (Phillips) Mangicaro's Obituary
Barbara M. (Phillips) Mangicaro, 82, of Syracuse, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023 at St. Camillus after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Barbara was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Thomas and Genevieve (Butler) Phillips. She graduated from Eastwood High School in 1959. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing the piano and traveling. Barbara retired from the ESM School District in 1997 and also worked at Laubach Literacy where she had many dear friends. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and loved being with her dogs. Her greatest joy was her spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her son, Robert Wise; her daughter, Deanna (Dominic) Garofalo; her granddaughter, Rebecca (Joel) DiTata; her grandson, Joseph Moulton; step grandsons, Dominic and David Garofalo; brothers, Thomas (Carol) Phillips and Frank Phillips; many nieces and nephews, and her former husband and longtime friend, George Mangicaro, who always remained a very important part of her life.
A funeral Mass in celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Blessed Sacrament Church, followed by entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
