Boshko Mangovski's Obituary
Boshko (Bob) Mangovski, 72, of Kirkville, NY, passed away on May 21, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Velusina, Macedonia, on Dec. 8,1951, Bob immigrated to the United States in 1961, with his parents, Yovan (John) and Mara (Yankulovich) Mangovski, and his younger brother, Vasko. The Mangovskis settled in Syracuse, NY, reuniting with Mara’s five sisters and her parents, Marko, and Velika Yankulovich.
Bob attended East Syracuse Minoa High School, where he was a member of the wrestling and football teams throughout his high school years. He graduated in 1971. After graduation, Bob attended a two-year electrical drafting program. In 1976, he married Sofi (Karapetkovska), who was born and raised in Bitola Macedonia. He retired from PepsiCo after 32 years with the company.
In 1980, Bob’s parents opened John & Sons Fly Road Market, a grocery store and deli, which Bob and his brother took over in 1987. Bob and his wife Sofi became the sole proprietors in 2000. Today, John & Sons remains a family business that continues to emphasize support for the community and the value they place on their loyal customers.
In addition to the commitment to the family business, Bob was a lifelong member of St. George Macedonian Orthodox Church, where he contributed much of his time, money, and skills to its growth. Over the years, he did many stints as the president of the church council and served on the Building Committee. He was heavily involved in the construction of the church and spent many years contributing to the building expansion as well as various church events and activities.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he took great pride in his grandchildren, who were a great source of happiness in his life. He had a strong work ethic and loved his store and his customers, and never said no to anyone who needed his help. He had a great sense of humor and was always the big guy with a big heart. His salutation to everyone he spoke to was always “to better days.” He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. HE WILL ALWAYS BE OUR HERO.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, Mara and Yovan Mangovski. He is survived by his wife Sofi Mangovski; his children Samantha (Salvatore) Procopio of East Syracuse, Christina (Chris) Campolo of Buffalo, and John Mangovski of Minoa; his grandchildren, Nadia Procopio, Chloe and Camila Campolo, Lillyanna, Lana, Mila and Ryder Mangovski; his brother Vasko (Elica) Mangovski; his nieces Maria (Alexander) Stojcevski and Katie Mangovski; his nephew Marc (Amy) Mangovski; and his great-nieces and nephews, Nikola and Ana Stojcevski, Tanas Mangovski and Atlas Alejandro.
